Student Sexual Misconduct Prevention Training

As part of our comprehensive health and safety program, USU requires all students who are enrolled in a non-certificate degree-granting program for 6 credit hours or more per semester to participate in a sexual misconduct prevention training each academic year. These trainings will empower students to make informed decisions about issues that affect our USU community.

Spring Semester 2024 Training Requirement

All new full-time, degree-seeking students at USU must complete sexual misconduct prevention training in Spring 2024. The training is also required for all full-time, degree-seeking continuing students.

This requirement does not apply to students who will not be taking classes until Fall 2024. The training will be assigned to these students in August 2024.

Students who do not complete this training by March 21st, 2024 will have a hold placed on their Fall 2024 registration.

New and continuing students who did not complete the training in a previous academic year can also use the below instructions to take it and remove their training registration hold. If you need guidance about which training to complete, email prevention@usu.edu. In the email, include your name, A number, semester when the hold was placed, campus location, and whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student.

Incoming Students - Sexual Misconduct Prevention Training

Incoming students – including first-year undergraduate students, students returning from a leave of absence, transfer students and first-year graduate students – are required to complete the sexual misconduct prevention training during their first semester at USU.

The sexual misconduct prevention training is provided in-person for incoming students at residential campuses (Blanding, Eastern, and Logan campuses) and online for incoming students at Statewide Campuses and for online-only incoming students.

Incoming students and students returning from a leave of absence at all campuses who do not complete the required sexual misconduct prevention training by the semester's completion deadline will have a registration hold applied to their account.

USU understands that students may have difficulties completing the required sexual misconduct prevention training due to its content. If a student has experienced trauma related to sexual misconduct and is unable to participate in the program, they may request a student training alternative by filling out this Qualtrics form: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bwvOSLGFECoJAge

Students are not required to give specifics as to why they are requesting this exemption.

Once the training alternative request form has been submitted, the Prevention Team will send students who request a training alternative a follow-up email with the training alternative that they have requested. They will also receive an email from our office that includes information about relevant on- and off-campus resources.

The in-person trainings for incoming students at residential campuses will be approximately 90 minutes (1.5 hours) long. The content of the training will be tailored for the following student demographics: graduate students, undergraduate students over 25 years old, and undergraduate students under 25 years old. Audience sizes will be limited, so you will need to RSVP for a training session at least 24 hours in advance.

If you do not receive an email about how to register for a session, please contact prevention@usu.edu. In the email, include your name, A number, campus location, and whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student.

The online incoming student course will take approximately 75-90 minutes to complete. The course will save your progress, so you do not need to complete it all at once.

USU will create an account for you within the online course vendor's system (Vector Solutions). An automated email from the online course vendor (noreply@studentsuccess.usu.edu) or from prevention@usu.edu will be sent to your USU email address once your account has been created. Check your spam folder if you cannot find the automated email in your inbox.

If you do not receive the automated email, please contact prevention@usu.edu. In your email, include your name, A number, campus location, and whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student.

You will be assigned to take one of the following courses based on your student demographic: (1) Not Anymore for Graduate Students, (2) Not Anymore for Non-Traditional Students (undergraduate students over 25 years old), (3) Not Anymore for Undergraduate Students (undergraduate students under 25 years old), or (4) Title IX Essentials for International Students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Training Requirement

USU cares about the safety of our community and preventing sexual misconduct on our campus. Our campus has chosen to require all students to complete an annual sexual misconduct prevention training to ensure everyone is informed and educated about how to create a safe living and learning environment.

All students are required to complete an individual student training each academic year. Additionally, student organization leaders, Fraternity and Sorority members, and all student athletes must also participate in an annual student group training.

You can find links to participate in or sign up for a training at the top of this webpage.

Please email prevention@usu.edu with your name, A number, whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, and your campus location so that the link can be emailed directly to you.

USU can only access information about trainings completed by students who register with a USU A-number, so we cannot access information about trainings completed at another institution. This training includes USU-specific resources and information that you should be aware of, so plan to take the training again.

If you are returning from a leave of absence and have not previously taken the incoming student sexual misconduct preventiontraining, then you are required to take it. This ensures that you are kept informed about campus and community resources and any changes that may have been made to campus policies during your absence.

USU requires all students returning from a Leave of Absence (LOA) to take the incoming student sexual misconduct prevention training if they did not complete the training prior to taking leave. Resources are added or updated each semester and to ensure students are aware of these updates, students returning from a LOA are required to take the incoming student training.

You will be assigned to take either an incoming student online course or an incoming student in-person training based on your campus location.

You are still required to participate in the annual student sexual misconduct prevention training if you already attended the employee training. The USU employee sexual misconduct training covers different content and fulfills a separate USU training requirement than the student sexual misconduct prevention training.

Both students and employees at USU have an annual sexual misconduct training requirement. Individuals with multiple university roles will be required to participate in each of the sexual misconduct trainings that is required for each of their roles. All of USU’s sexual misconduct trainings review unique content and attendance cannot be substituted between them.

Some student employees (such as graduate assistants and resident assistants) are required to take both the employee sexual misconduct training and the student prevention training. This means they will have to complete two separate trainings due to their dual roles as both students and employees at USU. Additionally, some students have an additional training requirement due to participation in athletics, fraternity and sorority life, and student organizations.

No. Exemptions from the required student training are no longer offered.

We understand that students may have difficulties completing the required sexual misconduct prevention training due to its content. If a student has experienced trauma related to sexual misconduct and is unable to participate in the program, they may request a student training alternative by filling out this Qualtrics form: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bwvOSLGFECoJAge

Training Deadline

The annual student sexual misconduct prevention training deadline is the day after that semester’s last day to withdraw from classes. The specific deadline for each semester is listed at the top of this webpage.

Complete the sexual misconduct prevention training as soon as possible. Students who have not completed their training requirement by that semester's completion deadline will have a hold placed on their account.

You will still be able to access, sign up for, and take the training after the completion deadline, but it will take 12-24 business hours for your hold to be removed once you have completed the training.

The registration hold remains in place until you complete the appropriate training. While the hold is in place, you cannot add or drop classes, or modify your class schedule in any way.

Registration holds will be removed within approximately 12-24 business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm).

The training is still required, and you'll continue to receive reminders until the registration hold is removed. The hold will not keep you from graduating or requesting your transcript, but it will be on your account if you ever choose to return to USU.

Training Completion

If you have a “live” training requirement, you must attend the full training (90 minutes) to receive attendance credit. If you’re unable to attend a full training, email prevention@usu.edu.

If you attend in person, you’ll need to swipe your student ID or manually enter your A-Number after the training has finished.

If you attend virtually, ensure your Zoom profile name is your first and last name. The instructor may ask you to send your A# in the Zoom chat to help take attendance.

In person attendance is manually updated by the instructor in Banner (USU's attendance tracking system). You can expect an email within 76 hours from the Office of Equity confirming your attendance or no-show.

If you have an online training requirement, your training completion will be recorded automatically.

If you are unable to attend during the available training times, email prevention@usu.edu so we can ensure you’re able to attend the training.

Incoming students on residential campuses can choose to attend the incoming student training virtually via Zoom or in-person. There are separate sign-up links for in-person and virtual Zoom sessions to avoid confusion.

Some student groups, including student-athletes and Fraternity and Sorority members are required to train in-person. If your email from the Office of Equity included a link to sign up for a virtual session, you can receive credit for attending that session.

Personal Questions or Concerns

Whether you are already sexually active or are delaying sexual activity or don’t plan to ever be sexually active, you still need to understand consent and the information in the sexual misconduct prevention training. Sexual misconduct doesn’t just involve sexual activity, and it can happen in any kind of relationship: friendship, long-term dating relationship, family, and even marriage.

The training is also important so that you can better respond to situations around you. We ask that all Aggies be Upstanders and step in when they see something that could cause harm to another person. Understanding consent and the signs of sexual misconduct will help you identify and address behavior that is harmful to our campus community.

Whether you are already married or have a family, you still need to understand consent and the information in the online sexual misconduct prevention training. Sexual misconduct can happen in a marriage and it can impact anyone within a family: spouse, child, cousin, aunt, uncle, and other family members.

We ask that all Aggies be Upstanders and step in when they see something that could cause harm to another person. USU is committed to providing comprehensive and effective sexual misconduct prevention training to all students at USU, and the sexual misconduct prevention training are an essential part of that commitment. It’s important to us as a public institution that all members of our community feel included on our campus and in our trainings. The trainings provide an inclusive, evidence-based approach that is reflective of the people in our campus community.
